Story Forge Brings Chicago’s Film Community Together Online

During a time when many are feeling alone and isolated, Eleven04‘s Zoom-based table read and pitch competition brought the local film community a little closer together Wednesday night. The Eleven04 team often hosts industry events in-person at their Pilsen soundstage, but the current Covid-19 circumstances dictated thinking outside of the box for this latest event. After reading over 50 script submissions and making some tough decisions, five finalists were selected to take part in the live-streamed Story Forge.
“I have to say I have been to a few virtual pitch/table read sessions since the pandemic. And this is the best, most interactive, one I’ve been to. This is really, really, good.” -Jessica Tolliver, Attendee
Once every filmmaker had the opportunity to convince the online audience that their script was the best, the audience voted for their favorite story — and the voting process is still open to participants on social media. From now until 5pm on June 5, anyone can cast a vote for their favorite script by liking that filmmaker’s post on Eleven04’s Facebook and Instagram pages. The winning script will be fully produced by the Eleven04 team, utilizing all the high-end gear and studio space needed to realize the filmmaker’s vision.
This was a massive undertaking and uncharted territory for the Eleven04 team, who coordinated the live stream with a host, multiple filmmakers, and a full cast of actors. In the end, Story Forge was an evening of positive vibes and creativity in an otherwise uncertain time. Viewers had a chance to engage with the filmmakers and each other via side-chat and Q&A segments, creating a strong connection with the creators of the various stories. While many would surely have loved to attend a live event with all the personal connections and snacking opportunities that entails, Story Forge brought a sense of normalcy back to the Chicago film community.
